Are Avent bottles good for a colicky baby?

My daughter is 8 weeks old and she is a colicky baby. I heard that Avent bottles are anti-colic. I was thinking about buying some. I have heard others say that it is a bad bottle to get because it leaks.

So some say it’s great, others say it’s bad. I don’t want to waste money on something that doesn’t work, plus, these bottles are very expensive. I don’t know what to do. Please help me. My baby cries everyday and my massages and everything else I do is not working.

It is very rare to have a bottle cause a colicky baby.

With that being said, I do use the Avent Nurser with Avents disposable liners, but these are expensive. I do have the extra money and I’m trying to avoid any potential colic problem so I’m ok with spending the extra money on liners. My baby is not two weeks old yet so colic if it hits should happen soon.

I’m guessing that if you are bottle feeding, then she is formula fed. Baby formula is probably the biggest cause of a colicky baby. I recently went through what could have been considered early colic and a lot of constipation, she was so frustrated and annoyed and the formula we used constipated her all the time so she would strain and strain and be in pain and then cry. We tried different formulas but i didnt want to deal with soy, lactose free, etc type of experiments, so i just tried one other, it didnt work and i went straight for the hydrolyzed protein formulas, which are Similac Alimentum and Enfamil Nutramigen. We went with Alimentum and it is hypoallergenic and usually for either infants with allergies or a lot of colic, it made a huge difference. It is much easier to digest, and my baby is a thousand times happier.

Similac Alimentum 16 oz. Powder

This formula from Similac is easy for sensitive babies to digest because its protein is broken down into tiny pieces to virtually eliminate allergic reations in most babies who are allergic to cows milk protein.

Breast milk digets really fast, so something that has highly broken down proteins is more resembleing of breast milk than regular formula. It is expensive but i suggest you try it, having a good nights sleep for you and your baby is priceless.

I agree that the bottle has nothing to do with it at all. My baby was colick for 3 months and it was so hard… I used Mylicon drops and Gripe Water and it worked.

I'm sure you'll get many different answers to 'which bottle is best' I've got a couple of recommendations for you. If you can try 2 or 3 bottles to see which your baby likes best. We tried Avent, Nuk and Dr. Browns. We've got twin boys and they both seemed to do best on Dr. Browns. There are more parts to wash, but hey, if it stops the crying it's worth every penny. Second, I would HIGHLY recommend watching (or reading the book) a dvd called The Happiest Baby on the Block. It gives you some easy and practical methods to sooth a newborn. It was very helpful for us. The DVD covers the whole book in an hour. The guy on it is a little cheezy, but his methods work wonders. I bought it on amazon. Here is the link:

Best of luck to you.. Colicky babies are hard, but hang in there, it will pass.

I love Avent bottles! I also really like the soothie bottles as well. The soothie bottles are the same nipples as the soothie bottles that they give out in the hospital. My daughter does great with those. They are perfect for her. I also used those because I started out breastfeeding and it was a good transition to the bottle.

I don't know about those, but I switched my son to Enfamil Nutramigen, and it stopped his colic almost immediately. It is great great stuff. Just remember to pack the scoops.
